Katy has come a long way since it was called ‘Cane Island.’ The ‘island’ accounts for the offshoot of the Buffalo Bayou creek running through the area.
The name came from all the cane growing that wasn’t indigenous to the region. Karankawa Indians and Spanish explorers planted the cane to make fur trapping easier. The cane didn’t get removed until the 1820s.
In 1845, James J. Crawford was awarded a land grant by the United States’ Federal Government. However, few European settlers wanted to move to such a wild place. Instead, freed slaves claimed ‘Cane Island’ for themselves and helped build the wonderful town of Katy, TX today.
Almost two-hundred years later, Katy is thriving with a historic town square chock full of friendly faces and hardworking people. bluefrog Plumbing and Drain are proud to be the most relied upon plumbers in Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller Counties.

Fracking Might be Great for Your Bank Account Balance, but Not so Good for Your Plumbing
Black gold, Texas tea, gas, petrol: whatever you call it, Texas and oil products have been synonymous for decades. In the late 1970s, oil companies discovered shales rich in natural gas underneath many different spots in Texas.
A few years ago, another large deposit was located underneath Houston- The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. The advancements in fractured drilling technology have made the practice commonplace in the region.
Many Katy, TX families leased their natural gas rights to companies who are removing the gas from far underground. This is an easy way to boost a families’ bank account with little involvement of their part. However, the drilling causes frequent, small earthquakes which negatively impact plumbing systems.
The original plumbing installation consisting of joints and pipes is supposed to remain stationary. Yet, the fracking process extracts the gas by forcing sand, pressurized water, and chemicals into the shale which moves and possibly damages household and commercial plumbing systems.
The fracturing process places exorbitant pressure on theses plumbing systems which disrupts the everyday flow of clean and wastewater. The most frequent fracking problems include slab leaks and burst pipes which must be fixed by a licensed plumber.
